There are cliffs in Cornwall where the land drops into the Atlantic and the wind seems to hold the fragrance of earth and salt. Stand there long enough and the world behind you: the roads, the routines, the realistic life dissolves. What remains is raw. Ancient. Uncontained.
I’ve stood on cliffs like that, both real and imagined. I’ve written about women who stand there too—Celtic priestesses who hear the gods whisper through oak trees, queens stripped of everything except the fire inside them, and lovers who choose desire and vulnerability over the safe walls of their heart. I write about the moments a woman stops following the rules and steps towards the edge.
That edge is where I live as a storyteller. The threshold between what history recorded and what it forgot. Between the tangible world and the one just beyond it. The world of myths, magic, and the kind of romance that doesn’t just make your heart race but makes you remember something about yourself that you’d buried.
I’m Shannon Steeves, and I take real history: Celtic Britain, medieval courts, ancient mythology, and I bend it. I look at the places where women were written out, where the fantastical was dismissed as folklore, and where love was deemed too dangerous for the pages of record. And I write what was left out—what I imagine might have been left out.
The seer who carried the mark of the gods. The fairy queen who handed a prince his power. The woman who chose the mysterious man on the beach over the gilded cage behind her.
My stories blend historical settings with fantasy, romance, and the kind of feminine power that doesn’t ask permission. The women in my books don’t just fall in love, they discover themselves. They don’t just survive, they transform. And the worlds they inhabit are grounded in real places and real mythology, because I believe the most extraordinary stories become unforgettable when they’re rooted in the mirror of our past.
This is the beginning of that journey. It’s not a newsletter about my books. It’s a living extension of the worlds I create, a space where history, myth, and the feminine heart intersect in ways that make you pause, feel, and imagine beyond the constructs we’ve been handed.
Here’s what you’ll find when you join me at the edge:
Stories between the stories. Original writing that lives in the threshold between history and fantasy, pieces rooted in real research but told through the voice of a storyteller, not a scholar. The mythology behind the fiction. The real places that inspired imagined worlds. The love stories history tried to erase.
A world you experience. Excerpts from my books that pull you into the worlds I’m building. Essays that explore the history and folklore I’m discovering—the Celtic rituals, the medieval courts, and the ancient places that still hum with forgotten realms or memories. I strive for writing that’s immersive, empowering, and refuses to choose between literary depth and pure entertainment.
The tip of something deeper. Every piece I publish here is a doorway into the larger world of my novels and screenplays. If this blog is the cliff’s edge, the books are the sea. This is where you decide if you want to dive off the cliff with me.
Like many stories throughout history, I believe the most powerful, the transformative ones live where reality meets magic—where a bridge in Paris holds a thousand years of love, where a lone oak tree on a cliff channels the voices of the dead, and where a woman’s transformation echoes across centuries because her truth never ages, it’s only hidden in the stories.
Join me.
